When a remote, partly inaccessible Aboriginal community needed internet and phone lines installed during the wet season of 2015, Orion was the only company prepared to give it a go.
“On behalf of the Kalumburu Aboriginal Corporation, we were able to open the Community Resource Centre to provide access to computers, internet and phones for the whole community,” said Sarah Clements of Community Focus National.
“Other providers weren’t willing to try – they all gave me a 5-6 month waiting period.”
The long wait was because Kalumburu, located in far north Western Australia, is only accessible by gravel road in the dry season only. In the wet season, the only way in or out is by light plane.
Orion, however, was up for the challenge.
“Due to the location, it was not an easy process,” said Sarah.
“Orion worked closely with us to help get the equipment up and running.
“We faced many difficulties such as weather, logistics and transport but in the end it was a successful install completed in the required timeframe.
Today the community at Kalumburu has access to a strong internet signal with sufficient band-width, through Orion’s satellite internet service.
